The collection of Hermann Rupf and his wife is considered one of the most important private collections of classic modern art today. Hermann Rupf, haberdasher born in Bern in 1880, and his wife, Margit Rupf-Wirz, began to develop their collection in 1907. At this time, they purchased their first pictures, paintings by Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso, which today are regarded among the most significant compositions of early Cubism. Within the framework of a travelling exhibition treating the collection, celebrating the 50-year anniversary of the Hermann und Margit Rupf-Stiftung, a glimpse is offered into the collection – including the most significant pieces, such as, for instance, the Fauves (Derain, Friesz), the Cubists (Braque, Picasso, Gris and Léger), as well as the works of Paul Klee and Kandinsky.
